This document is a transcription made from Edwin W. Stephens' History of Boone County, first published in installments in the Columbia Statesman in 1869 and reprinted in the Columbia Daily Tribune starting in 1914. This transcription relied on the Tribune reprintings and are numbered accordingly; the original Statesmen articles were at times lengthier, and some content was omitted in the Tribune reprinting. Its contents include primary sources and historical sketches from the French colonial period to post-statehood with an emphasis on the settlements of white colonists. Much of its later content involves local and state election results, census records and other demographic information.

Please note: as a document authored in the late nineteenth century, the attitudes and language within include racial bias, slurs and content that readers may find offensive, though relevant to understanding the cultural landscape of Boone County at that time.
